Treetop Adventure Park brings adds zip to Lake Tahoe winter weekends

Friday, February 8th, 2013

Outdoor winter adventure at Lake Tahoe is usually reserved for the ski slopes and backcountry traversing on skis or snowshoes.

Granlibakken Conference Center & Lodge, however, take the wintertime challenge to another level with California’s first Treetop Adventure Park, “where ropes course meets zip line on steroids.”

The snow creates an added challenge to the Treetop Adventure Park.

The adventure course consists of platforms installed along tree tops that are connected by various configurations of cable, wood, rope and zip lines to form bridges.

Fully harnessed guests can zip, climb, walk, and maneuver their way through various obstacle courses, each with varying degrees of skills and challenges that promote teamwork at 30-feet above the ground.

Outfitted in climbing harnesses and helmets, guests are connected to a belay system for added safety where adventurers of all ages can take to more than 50 platforms and bridges. There’s even a Flying Squirrel zone that caters to the young adventurers, ages 4+ and beginning climbers. The Flying Squirrel zone consists of 3 different kids’ ropes courses and includes a variety of bridges and zip lines, some nearly 300 feet long.

The Treetop Adventure Park is open Saturdays, Sundays and holidays through winter and any day for groups of 10 or more. Looking to change-up your Lake Tahoe weekend? The Family Getaway Package includes lodging, hot breakfast, sledding, deals at the Granlibakken Ski Hill and access to the Treetop Adventure Park.

How do you plan to spend your winter weekend at the lake?

Meet in the tree-tops at Granlibakken and change the view of your company

Sure there are those tried and true team-building exercises used by companies all over to hone areas of trust, leadership and cooperation. But what kind of place gives executives and sales managers the opportunity to see the world suspended 30 feet above the tree-tops, with magnificent backdrops of the Sierra and Lake Tahoe?

No matter the season the Treetop Adventure Park is a great team-building experience for your work group.

No matter the season the Treetop Adventure Park is a great team-building experience for your work group.

Put another way, which would you rather be at? A retreaded corporate retreat inside four sterile white walls practicing role playing communication scenarios that are propped with paper cups and string, peanut butter and loaves of Wonder Bread? Or would you rather run, swing, climb and glide along jaw-dropping zip line and rope courses with your co-workers in physical and mental challenges that will leave you and your comrades breathless and wanting to do it again and again?

Yes, we thought so too.

Now is the time for your company managers to warm up to winter or spring ahead before summer hits with an unforgettable retreat. Meet in the treetops; change your viewpoint and your approach.

Granlibakken will bring out that high-level thinking for your team. All you have to do is be up for the challenge. The Treetop Tour conference center package includes:

  • Treetop Adventure Park Team Building
  • Lodging at Granlibakken Conference Center & Resort
  • Three delicious meals daily
  • Meeting facilities for 4 to 400
  • Standard A/V equipment
  • Coffee breaks
  • Complementary cocktail hour for two nights booked at conference center resort

Not one to hang out in the trees, the flexible nature of Granlibakken provides a veteran staff an opportunity to bend the rules and try something new when unique requests arise.

And some of those requests in recent years have been beyond imaginative, such as:

  • A make-shift midnight candy room with collections of sweet and salty treats for late-night creative sessions.
  • A handcrafted ice bar buffet atop the mountain accessible only by snowshoe or ski followed by overnight camping in a snow cave.

The tech group with the midnight sugar rush was amped for the meeting and beyond, claiming it a “sweet” success. The science experts who high-tailed it to the ice bar literally stepped and slept outside the box – and four walls of a meeting room for a peak experience.

That’s what meeting planners and company conference reps can expect at Granlibakken, Tahoe’s original ski resort and conference center that has a long history of catering to groups of various sizes and types, as well as thought patterns.

So, anyone need their own mountain? Groups also have the option to host outdoor team building activities with private reservation of the Granlibakken Ski and Sled Hill. If a more traditional meeting room set-up is desired – the kind with lights, heat, ceilings, windows and the latest in connectivity, Granlibakken can handle it. Resort lodging runs the gamut from one to eight bedroom condominiums.

What’s your ideal corporate retreat look like?
