Tuesday, February 18th, 2014

Known for its laid back, family-friendly atmosphere, wind-protected slopes, incredible tree skiing and being home mountain for 2014 Sochi Olympic gold medalist Jamie Anderson and athletes Maddie Bowman and Hannah Teter, Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort is a true Sierra Nevada ski experience.

Granlibakken has partnered with Sierra to offer stay and ski packages that begin at $150 and include lodging, a lift ticket, access to onsite skiing and sledding hills, heated outdoor pool, hot tub and sauna, plus Granlibakken‘s famous hot breakfast buffet.

Sierra-at-Tahoe expands over 2,000 acres, has 46 trails, holding a vertical rise of 2,212, feet with a bottom elevation of 6,640 feet and top elevation of 8,852 feet.

Beginning skiers have 25% of the mountain to themselves, while 50% is considered intermediate and 25% advanced. Sierra’s longest run is Sugar n’ Spice, a 2.5 miles top to bottom experience. Sierra has five gates to access its popular backcountry Huckleberry Canyon. Sierra offers three Express Quad chair lifts, five double chair lifts, one triple chair lift and five surface lifts.

When it comes to terrain parks, Sierra offers some of the world’s best. And where do the best learn? Sierra of course. At this year’s 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi, Jamie Anderson, plucked her first gold medal in a near-flawless run in the Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle competition with tricks perfected at Sierra.

For 12 years TransWorld SNOWboarding and their readers have been ranking the best overall resorts, parks and pipes in North America. In 2013 TransWorld SNOWboarding ranked Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort among the Top Ten Overall Resorts, Top Ten Terrain Parks and received the editor’s pick for Best Value.

For those who prefer to be closer to the snow, Sierra offers a tubing and snowplay area  and those looking to walk through the woods, there’s three miles of maintained snowshoe trails.

This season Sierra opened a new 9,000-square-foot Base Area Plaza that enhances the overall après atmosphere, gives guests a place to gather and celebrate winter in the mountains. The Plaza will be the place to be this spring when Sierra hosts a foot-stomping, energetic music series featuring live music from top regional touring music acts. Produced by OnCourse Events and sponsored by Tahoe South, the music series feature bands that will play on three select weekends in the spring. The concerts will give guests a chance to enjoy live music, après, dance, and relax after a fun day on the mountain.

The Burton Star Wars™ Experience continues to grow with the Burton Star Wars Echo Base, a learning experience. Building off of the success of Yoda’s Riglet Park the Burton Star Wars Echo Base now offers a snowboarding program for kids ages 7-12. The new Burton Star Wars Echo Base gives kids 7-12 the opportunity to learn how to snowboard using terrain-based teaching, iconic Star Wars characters, and Burton Learn to Ride technology and techniques. Young snowboarders will get the chance to “defeat the dark side” and become Jedi Knights by conquering their fears of sliding on snow. Kids will learn to snowboard in a one-of-a-kind environment unlike any other in the universe.

Whether you’re looking for a warm-up beverage, a carbo load or a fat and juicy burger, braut, barbecue and a beer, Sierra-at-Tahoe offers a number of food options including Tiki Bar and Grill, Mama’s Kitchen, 360 Smokehouse Barbecue at the top of Grandview Express, the Baja Grill, Happy Hippie, Aspen Cafe, Sierra Pub and Deli and Java Junction.

Will Sierra-at-Tahoe be a part of your spring skiing plans?
