Granlibakken earns coveted Judges Award at Lake Tahoe Autum Food & Wine Festival

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

Granlibakken’s Chef Ron Eber once again put his signature creative flair and culinary skills to work by winning the coveted Judges’ Award for “Best Marriage of Food and Wine” at the 27th Annual Lake Tahoe Autumn Food & Wine Festival recently.

The winning combination of stuffed portobello mushrooms with red lentil hash, chevre, duck and red currant paired with a 2010 Morgan Pinot Noir had the judges’ attention right away. And it’s no wonder; Chef Eber has been doing it for years. Whether it is the elaborate theme dinners with dishes like Mahi Mahi Sauté, Top Sirloin with Maitre D’Hotel Butter, Petite Filet Mignon and Shrimp Sauté, or something as simple as “build your own soup and sandwich” lunch buffet, Granlibakken has something for everyone.

Guests will experience Chef Eber’s creative flair and skilled culinary cast, dedicated to pleasing every guest’s palate. In addition to mouthwatering hors d’oeuvres, main courses, and deserts, Granlibakken offers a complete wine and beer list, as well as a full bar.

Granlibakken’s full American plan offers maximum flexibility with a variety of menu choices. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style; at dinner choose from buffet or banquet service. Special arrangements can be made for private “sit-down” lunches or dinners.

And no Granlibakken food write-up is complete without a mention of its epic early morning menu. Chef Eber well known throughout the state for dishing up the resort’s famous and hearty breakfast buffets, complimentary for every guest. These rise and shine fuel-for-the day offerings feature homemade muffins, quiches, blintzes, eggs, and the daily chef’s special, plus all the accompaniments.

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

Leave the men at home weekend…

As part of Granlibakken’s commitment to health & wellness, the annual Lake Tahoe Women’s Wellness Weekend – a long standing community event in Tahoe City- will now be hosted by the resort November 12-13. The event fuses Eastern tradition with Western practices to offer a balanced weekend of information, inspiration, activities, food & wine.

Hosting events is Granlibakken’s forte.  The schedule for the Women’s Wellness Weekend starts with optional exercise activities including a 5k fun run or 1 mile nature walk through the perimeter of Granlibakken’s hillside forest. I love running in the fall when it’s cool, you don’t get overheated and seeing the Autumn leaves – it’s beautiful.

Breakfast is followed by an opening “jump-start” talk by respected Psychologist Amy Vail.  Seminars on Saturday include breast health, environmental health, nutrition, healthy aging and empowering exercise activities (optional).  Choose between Ki Gong, a form of gentle exercise using breathing, posture and meditation:  Restorative Yoga, Or a special class  ref: Astrology/Health.  Lunch is provided and flows into further talks throughout the afternoon. Saturday evening finishes with wine and shopping. Go for a new experience and have your astrological chart read by Robert Ayres (additional charge).

Festivities on Sunday include optional exercise classes of Cross-fit, Pilates and yoga with discussion classes and a health fair. Enjoy breakfast followed by classes on finances for your future, acupuncture, chiropractic and skin care. The afternoon includes an interactive health fair including gait analysis, makeup artists, body fat testing, skin screenings, mani & pedi stations and much more.  Blood lab readings are available and must be signed up for in advance (additional charge).  For the adventurous women attend the Zumba Party Sunday afternoon.

Registration is only $99.00. To register, please visit Granlibakken’s homepage and click “make a reservation.” Click “conference” and use the information:  “www” as your login and password.

Grab a girlfriend and stay for $138.50/person double occupancy per person per night (rate includes conference fee).

So who’s going to join me this weekend? What aspect are you most interested in learning?  I’m intrigued by Astrology/Health and love Zumba classes!

A Viking’s Breakfast at Granlibakken

A Breakfast Buffet fit for a Viking

A Breakfast Buffet fit for a Viking

Breakfast. They say it is the most important meal of the day. If this is the case then why are so many skimping on this all Important calorie fix? More importantly, why are most hotels cutting back this critical meal? Nowadays this “complimentary breakfast” at most lodging properties is nothing more than stale bagels and orange marmalade.

Not Granlibakken. No way. Our complimentary hot breakfast buffet title doesn’t do it justice. Hot, hearty, feast fit for a viking, free buffet seems to be a closer description. This buffet is truly a treat to your taste buds. French toast, biscuits and gravy, bacon and eggs are merely a few choices of the plethora you have.

Whether you are a coffee and danish person or a full on AM chow master, like myself, Granibakken’s breakfast wont disappoint. Vacationing in Tahoe can be a full throttle activity and proper fuel is a must, especially before hitting the trails, slopes or heading into downtown Tahoe City for a day of shopping and beach combing.
