Check into Granlibakken and check out the Halloween festivities

Monday, October 21st, 2013

Whether you’re a family with kids or a big kid looking to dress in costume, Halloween arrives at Lake Tahoe with plenty of scarecrows, monsters and mash to put in your favorite gogo juice.

Check into Granlibakken and check out the week of Halloween activities around the lake.

See how downtown Tahoe City decks itself around town with Scarecrows on Parade daily through Halloween. This annual event encourages folks to stroll through Tahoe City and view the dozens of participating businesses that have life-like scarecrows. Walkers and gawkers are then encouraged to vote for their favorite scarecrow.

On Halloween there will be trick or treating in downtown Tahoe City with plenty of candy for the kids. Grab a glow necklace from Heritage Plaza and enjoy the scenery as kids gobble down pounds of sugar.

Festivities leading up to the fright night include the Not-So-Scary Haunted House at Tahoe Donner that runs from 5 to 8 p.m., now through Halloween. Kids can enjoy movies, games, prizes and sacks full of candy. Cost is $2 for kids and parents are free.

With the celebration of Nevada Day in Carson City, lake activities with a Halloween twist include The Ghost of Mark Twain Grand Party on Friday, Oct. 25 at the Mark Twain Cultural Center & Toccata Guttman Music Hall, Incline Village. McAvoy Layne as Mark Twain will be reopening the music hall in time to kick-off the celebration of Nevada’s Sesquicentennial.

Saturday, Oct. 26 at Tahoe City’s Lakeside Pizza and Sports Bar features its Hallowee’kend bash with dancing, drink specials and costume contests with $50 gift-card prizes to each of the following categories: Sexiest, Scariest and Most Creative, with a grand prize of $100 cash.

Find your freak at the Creepers Ball Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Crystal Bay Club. Costume, prizes, and plenty of laughs at this Halloween ball bash with the famed 1980s cover band Tainted Love from San Francisco.

Meanwhile on the big fright night, Jake’s on the Lake will be the place for the Psychedelic Scientist’s Lazer Laboratory Halloween Hootenanny. Party begins at 9 p.m. Dress up and dance to the laser-light show with the music of Chango and Micah J throwing down the funk.
