Vikings ski too!

Friday, November 19th, 2010

This past weekend, our Viking Lars a’Loud descended on the Santa Clara ski show with horns on head and skis in hand. And with the promise of new snow (anywhere from 1″ to 4″ in Tahoe City) this weekend, Lars, Bjorn and Frida have snow on the mind.

If you are in the Sacramento area this weekend, Lars will be at the Ski Dazzle show on Saturday and Sunday, November 20th and 21st. He was a real hit in Santa Clara and brought out the Viking spirit in everyone.

To all you Vikings out there, put on your horns and pray for snow!

Thanksgiving – A holiday for Vikings.

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

At Granlibakken, we’re preparing for the Thanksgiving holiday. Our Vikings in-residence, Bjorn t’Party, Frida Romabout and Lars a’Loud, are here to share with us their favorite traditions from the harvest.

Frida's sweet tooth

Frida's sweet tooth

I quite fancied the smoked pork with a side of fresh parsnips, turnips, onions and cabbage flavored with dill, thyme and marjoram. Since I have a sweet tooth, my favorite was porridge from barley and oats cooked with milk. And to make it even more decadent, I’d drop a dollop of butter on top.

Well it’s no surprise that you’ll always find me, horns in hand filled to the brim with beer. When Frida and I get together, you’ll even see me sipping the mead – a drink made from honey.

Yes, celebrations are certainly about the bounty. For me, they’re also about signing, dancing and storytelling. I can’t remember a grand celebration without family and friends at arm’s length, sharing tales and making new memories.

Our traditions exist here at Granlibakken with their generous holiday feasts, Christmas caroling and festivities and welcoming accommodations perfect for groups big and small. Whether you’re staying at home this Thanksgiving and perhaps cooking on your Viking range or eating leftovers while cheering on the Minnesota Vikings or joining us here at Granlibakken, we wish you a wonderful holiday. And don’t forget, everything’s better with horns on!

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Hey there.

Bob, a.k.a. “Bob the Berserker” here. I’m one of Granlibakken’s three new Viking Ambassadors. The resort brought us on board to feature its amenities, like free Wi-Fi and the peace and quiet of its 74 wooded acres just minutes from the shores of Lake Tahoe.

But I digress. My fellow warriors and I invite you to get barbaric with your creativity with not one, but two Granlibakken Viking-themed contests. Our trio needs a title, and we also want your input appropriate Viking names for each of us. I can’t go by Bob anymore… there’s already one in accounting. Check out which contest is right for you or learn more at www.Granlibakken.com.

Meeting Planners:

Individuals from any company or industry that plan meetings can enter their name for the Viking Trio for a chance to win a $20,010 conference at Granlibakken! Enter by May 5, 2010 and grab victory by the horns.

Everyone else:

Not a meeting planner? No problem. We want to hear your thoughts on what names we should go by, besides the ones our mamas gave us. Submit your bright ideas and you could win a Tahoe vacation at Granlibakken. Enter by May 5, 2010 and let your creativity flow the icy seas.

Why Vikings? We’re part of the Lake Tahoe resort’s heritage. Granlibakken translates to “hillside sheltered by fir trees,” as named by the Norwegian ski jumpers who developed the site that would later become the location of the 1932 Olympic ski jump trials and then Granlibakken Conference Center and Lodge.  As Viking, I’m pretty darn proud of that.

Have a Thor-tastic day and good luck in the contests!

Bob
