We recommend that you always travel to the mountains with snow chains in your car, while 4-wheel drive is not required it will make for a safer and easier winter journey, especially if there has been recent snowfall.
Nature's Air Conditioning
The Sierra Nevada Mountains boast cooler temperatures and a moderate climate throughout the year. We use "Nature's Air Conditioning" to regulate temperatures in the units during warmer months as the units are not equipped with refrigerated air conditioning.
We hope that you enjoy your time outdoors; however for times you are in your unit we recommend these techniques to stay comfortable.
- Ensure the thermostat in your unit is set to OFF or the lowest temperature setting as it only controls the heating.
- Located in your unit is either a ceiling fan, box fan or floor standing fan, you can use these to pull air in from the outside and circulate it.
- Opening external doors and windows in the evenings will allow mountain air to enter and help cool the unit; keep these doors and windows closed during the day to keep the hot air outside.
- Keeping curtains or blinds closed during the day blocks sunlight from heating your unit.
Arriving in Tahoe at night or during a weather event can be slightly challenging, and as a dark skies supporter the resort is dimly lit. To find our lobby and get checked into your unit, know that the lobby is located on the first floor of our Main Lodge. The resort roadway is essentially a loop, and the main lodge is located on the loop. In summer you can take the right road at the fork, but in winter you must head left at the fork (to keep you safe, as the right can be icy.) Regardless of which way you drive, our main entrance is located at the SW end of the Main Lodge and is an ADA, stair-free route. Look for the ADA and Winter entrance signs next to unit 15, then follow the hallway through to the lobby, passing the laundry, restrooms and finally right, then left into the lobby (it is not as complicated as it may read.)
Alternatively you can park your vehicle at the underpass of the Main Lodge and head inside and upstairs, the lobby entrance will be two flights up, on your right.
For the health and convenience of other guests and to help us provide the cleanest and most sanitary accommodations available, pets are not permitted. At this time only ADA qualified service animals that have been individually trained to perform tasks for an individual with a disability are allowed at Granlibakken Tahoe. Emotional support and therapy animals are not qualified as ADA service animals.
